Hello folks. I know it’s been a while since I last sent out any mail, and that’s probably considered a good thing, but here I go again… a little bit older, a little bit wiser, a little bit balder.
As the Thanksgiving leftovers thankfully finally dwindle, and every afternoon seems to darken to night right after lunch, we feel the approach of the most special time of the year. It is now that children and adults alike check their calendars daily, knowing that their dreams may soon come true. It is a time when we smile without needing a reason. It’s a time when we wish good cheer to everyone, and the hope that ‘Peace on Earth, good will toward man’ is more than a greeting card filler. It is a time when we feel comfortable linking arms with our neighbors, sharing laughter and love. Yes, it’s almost here: Bowl Season, the most wonderful time of the year. So to fans of all teams, no matter which colors you proudly wear, no matter which fight song you hum under the mistletoe, no matter which school you sign your checks to, let us all, as one, proudly state the mantra of the season - Go Green, Go White. From Pasadena to Ann Arbor, let your voices be heard. And while we are enjoying ourselves, please take a moment to thank a wolverine, because without them, none of this would be possible (I get it. It’s a cheap shot. Look, I haven’t had many chances to dog the wolverines in my lifetime, so let me have my five minutes. Trust me. I’ve been on the receiving end many times).
The other thing I’d like to wish to all of you is Merry Christmas. I guess the true reason-for-the-season is not football. There really is something special this time of the year, and I know it gets lost in the hustle and the bustle, and the noise and the lights, but let’s truly wish the best to each other, let’s take care of each other, let’s celebrate the way we were intended to celebrate, with our friends and family and community. I’m going to try to never let a Christmas go by without giving something to a stranger, even if it’s just a kind word or a smile. That sounds hokey, unless you’re the person getting the kind word or the smile. Then maybe it’s special. Maybe it makes your day a little bit brighter, and that can only be a good thing.
For unto us a child is born,
Unto us a son is given
And the government will be upon his shoulder.
And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Prince of Peace.
Prince of Peace. Pretty cool, huh? May your holidays be surrounded by peace, and by love, and by hope. Merry Christmas, everyone. See you all soon.
PS If anyone wants an awesome gift, my son, Tyler, is selling Subway cards for his JV basketball team at Pinckney High School. They cost $20, but can be used for 16 free footlong subs (with purchase of one and a drink) and 16 free 6” subs (with purchase of a 6” sub and drink), so they are a good deal if you eat a lot of Subway. He needs to know by December 11th, so if you are interested, let me know – firstname.lastname@example.org . Thanks
